The Algerian Embassy in Bahrain Celebrates the 64th anniversary of "Victory Day"March 19, 1962/2026"Eternal Glories and Renewed Victories"
Today, March 19, 2026, Algeria commemorates the 64th anniversary of Victory Day, on which a ceasefire was implemented throughout Algeria, just one day after the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic and the French government signed the "Evian Agreements," which officially ended the war between Algeria and France and paved the way for organizing a self-determination referendum in Algeria to end a dark colonial era that lasted 132 years.
The Algerian people waited a long time to see their dream come true and their will to live in freedom and dignity under their victorious national banner realized, after many years of political, military, and diplomatic struggle led by the Glorious November Revolution, and after Algeria had sacrificed hundreds of thousands of martyrs for the sake of this freedom, ultimately reaching this stage where France was forced to accept Algeria's independence.
Victory Day remains a prominent milestone in Algeria's history and a shining example on firm faith and strong determination in the possibility for oppressed peoples to achieve their freedom. Through its Glorious Revolution, Algeria has regained its position among free nations and has proven that colonialism is not an inevitable fate, but rather a human phenomenon that can be overcome through will and determination.
The celebration of this great day, like other national holidays, aims to instill a culture of determination and self-confidence, and that a strong will for liberation will ultimately prevail.
